What is Genosys skin care?

Genosys is a professional cosmeceutical product line developed for use in clinics rather than at home. A Genosys skin care session is a structured facial in which the skin is first cleansed and prepared, and then treated with concentrated formulations selected for its condition on that day.

The formulations draw on ingredient groups that are well established in dermatological skin care: peptides and growth-factor-mimicking complexes, vitamins such as vitamin C and the B vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and plant extracts. The aim is to support the skin’s own renewal cycle and to improve hydration, texture and tone gradually, rather than to force a rapid change.

Because the products are professional grade, the concentrations and the order in which they are layered matter. At Zen Polyclinic the session is planned after a skin assessment, and the product selection is adjusted from one session to the next as the skin responds.

Skin assessment before a Genosys skin care session
The session begins with an assessment of skin type, sensitivity and any products currently in use.

Which skin concerns is it chosen for?

Dullness and uneven texture. The cleansing and enzymatic steps remove the build-up of dead cells on the surface, which is often the main reason skin looks tired and rough to the touch.

Congested pores and blackheads. Steam and gentle extraction help empty blocked follicles. This part of the session is adapted to how reactive the skin is; on sensitive skin it is kept short or left out.

Dehydration and loss of suppleness. Hyaluronic acid and moisturising complexes are layered onto skin that has just been cleansed, when absorption is at its most efficient.

Early signs of ageing. Peptide and antioxidant based formulations are used to support firmness and to help the skin cope with environmental stress. The effect builds over a course of sessions.

Acne-prone skin. Sebum-regulating and soothing formulations can be included as supportive care. Genosys skin care is not a substitute for acne treatment prescribed by a physician; where an active acne problem exists, it is planned alongside that treatment, not instead of it.

How does the session proceed?

1. Assessment. Skin type, sensitivity, existing conditions and any topical or oral products in use are reviewed, and the steps for that session are decided.

2. Cleansing and enzymatic peeling. Make-up, sunscreen and surface sebum are removed, and an enzymatic or herbal peeling loosens dead cells so that the products applied later can reach the skin.

3. Steam. Warm vapour softens the follicle openings and prepares the skin for the extraction step.

4. Extraction. Blackheads and congestion are cleared with vacuum or manual techniques. The intensity is matched to the skin’s tolerance.

5. Serums and ampoules. The selected concentrates are applied. Depending on the plan, iontophoresis or a similar delivery step may be used to help the ingredients penetrate more evenly.

6. Massage. A facial massage works the products in and supports circulation and lymphatic drainage.

7. Mask. A mask chosen for the skin type — soothing, hydrating or clarifying — is left on for a set time.

8. Toning and moisturising. The mask is removed, a tonic is used to refresh the skin, and a moisturiser is applied. Sunscreen is added if the session ends during daylight hours.

A full session usually takes between forty-five and sixty minutes. There is no recovery period; you can return to your day straight afterwards.

Who is it not suitable for?

Genosys skin care is a low-risk, non-invasive facial, but it is not appropriate for every skin at every moment:

  • Active skin infection, cold sores or open lesions in the treatment area
  • Untreated or severe inflammatory acne, which should be assessed by a physician first
  • Known allergy to any of the ingredients used in the products
  • Skin currently recovering from a peel, laser session or other procedure, until healing is complete
  • Ongoing isotretinoin use or other treatment that leaves the skin unusually fragile
  • Eczema, psoriasis or rosacea in an active flare

Please tell us about any medication you use, any allergies you have and any procedure you have had in the previous few weeks before the session begins. This information determines which steps are included and which are left out.

When do the results become visible?

The change in the days immediately after a session is mainly about surface condition: the skin looks clearer and brighter, feels smoother and holds moisture better. This is the effect of cleansing, exfoliation and intensive hydration, and it is real but temporary.

Changes in texture, tone and firmness develop more slowly, because they depend on the skin’s own renewal cycle. For that reason Genosys skin care is usually planned as a course rather than a single appointment — commonly a series of sessions spaced two to four weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions. The interval and the number of sessions are decided individually and may change as the skin responds.

Home care matters as much as the sessions themselves. Regular cleansing, moisturising and daily sunscreen are what allow the results of a session to hold; without them, the skin returns to its previous condition more quickly.

Use alongside other treatments

Genosys skin care combines readily with other applications and is often planned as part of a wider skin programme. It can be alternated with Hydrafacial for deep cleansing, or followed by a LED mask session to calm the skin at the end of the appointment. Where a more intensive renewal is planned, it is used to prepare and support the skin around microneedling sessions rather than at the same visit. If you are not sure which route suits your skin, our medical skin care page sets out the alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Does the session hurt?
No. The steps are non-invasive and most people find the session relaxing. The extraction step can feel briefly uncomfortable on congested areas, and its intensity is adjusted to your tolerance.
How often should it be repeated?
Sessions are typically spaced two to four weeks apart during the initial course, then less frequently for maintenance. The interval depends on your skin type and on what the sessions are addressing.
Can I wear make-up afterwards?
It is better to leave the skin bare for the rest of the day so the products can continue to work. Sunscreen is the exception and should be applied if you are going out in daylight.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Often yes, with the protocol adapted — the exfoliation shortened, extraction reduced or omitted and soothing formulations used. This is decided during the assessment.
Can it be done during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
The basic cleansing and hydrating steps are generally considered suitable, but some active ingredients are avoided. Please tell us in advance so the protocol can be adjusted.
Will my skin flake or peel afterwards?
Mild flaking is possible in the first day or two if an enzymatic peeling step was used, particularly on dry skin. Slight redness may also appear and usually settles within a few hours.
Can I have it before an event?
Yes, though it is sensible to allow a few days rather than booking for the same day, so that any temporary redness has time to settle.
