Although the most visible signs of aging tend to be seen on the face, the hands also indicate the effects aging has on the body. Additionally, where facial cosmetic procedures have continued to improve, similar treatments that address the needs of the hands have been overlooked. Patients are presented with a number of options in reaching a young and balanced facial esthetic; whereas, they are faced with a lack of choices while considering the topic of hands. However, hand filler operations performed in the last few years has paved the way for erasing the signs of aging from one’s hands.
Noticing the Signs of Aging
As we begin to age, our hands go through certain changes, which often happens before other parts of our bodies do. Like the rest of the body, when our hands are exposed to the sun, they also get damaged - though the difference in this case is that they begin to change shape. Due to aging, hands begin to lose their volume - making veins, tendons and bones more noticeable, which eventually leads to the appearance of a skeleton.
Loss of volume on hands is a natural process, though it is believed that ultraviolet rays also factor into the overall equation.
What are Hand Fillers?
Hand fillers are a type of remedy that could actively be used to reverse the signs of aging. Tissue that has been lost due to aging is altered by the injection of a substance. The most widely used hand filler substance is a dermal filling gel made of substances that are found naturally in the body.
Currently there are only two FDA approved products: Radiesse and soon to be joined by Restylane Lyft. However, hand fillers should still be performed by acknowledged doctors. Should the operation go wrong, it could lead to congestion and necrosis of the skin. Our doctors at Özel Zen Poliklinik have years of proven experience in regards to hand fillers.
How is the Treatment Performed?
Should you choose hand fillers, you will soon understand and feel better knowing that it is a noninvasive treatment which would not get in the way of your daily activities. In most cases, your doctor is able to perform the entire treatment within a one-hour period.
Though the details of the treatment will vary for each person, your doctor will apply a local anesthetic or numbing cream between your fingers prior to injecting the dermal filling substance.
The period required for healing following the treatment is very short. Most people are able to return to their daily activities within a few days. You may experience some swelling, for this reason, it is a good idea to refrain from activities that fasten blood circulation for a period of 48 hours, since it may cause further inflammation.
Filling substances may lead to some bruising and swelling. However, such conflicts disappear within a week. At the same time, you may use makeup to cover affected spots. In certain instances, your doctor may recommend massaging your hand that has been performed on, in order to avoid the formation of lumps or other unwanted side effects.
